COMPANY: Behind the Scenes
Company is celebrating 55 years in 2026! Company’s inaugural production, Once Upon a Mattress, was performed in the spring of 1971, followed by the play Antigone in the fall. Since its inception, Company has produced over 100 classic and contemporary dramas, comedies, and musicals. This includes award-winning productions like Little Shop of Horrors (2026), Unexpected Developments (2024), Rumors (2021), South Pacific (2018), and All My Sons (2017). Company members have received many other awards and recognitions for leading and supporting roles on the stage and behind the scenes. We continue the tradition of outstanding theater performances at Weston High School this fall with the murder-mystery This Murder Was Staged.
This Murder Was Staged is an audience-interactive comedy written by Patrick Greene and Jason Pizzarello. This show is fast-paced and family-friendly and widely praised for its witty dialogue, high-energy pacing, and many jokes. It takes place in the final scene of opening night: A Spot of Murder. The show opens where the murderer is to be revealed when a body suddenly falls out of a closet, limp on the floor.
This Murder Was Staged is a super fun, interactive show where the cast interacts with the audience throughout the entire show. Additionally, the audience has the opportunity to choose the ending of the show during intermission, which makes it a surprise for the actors and audience!
To provide some insight on this production, Weston Warhorse interviewed some actors from the cast for their insight.
Warhorse: So, to kick off the first question, what got you guys involved in Company?
AMELIA STEIN ‘30: My sister was also involved in Company in tech crew so I got to see all the shows and I was backstage a lot so I really wanted to do it.
LUCAS BUCKMIR ‘30: My friends and family got me to want to do Company because it looked really fun and I just wanted to experience what they did.
Warhorse: What are you guys looking forward to most?
AMELIA: I can’t wait for the shows when we actually get to be up on stage with the real audience. It’s gonna be really fun.
LUCAS: I love actually being able to rehearse on stage every day compared to when we were in middle school when we had to rehearse in the cafeteria.
Warhorse: What’s your favorite part of Company so far?
AMELIA: The people. Everyone is so nice and really inclusive even if you’re new. Everyone just welcomes you and you’re all friends within the day.
LUCAS: I love being able to experience a play with high schoolers with every grade. Like I get to experience it with seniors…and yeah basically like that.
Warhorse: And why should people come to This Murder Was Staged?
AMELIA: Because it’s really fun ’cause it’s interactive so even if you’re in the audience you can still be involved in the show and choose the ending during intermission!
LUCAS: It’s very funny. It’s a comedy, so it’s great to entertain you as an audience member.
Warhorse: Okay, finally, out of five stars, how many would you give this production?
AMELIA: Definitely five stars, super fun, and everyone should come see it.
LUCAS: Also five stars, it’s amazing to see it as an audience member, and it’s amazing on stage for both aspects.
The final production will show November 20 & 21. Every great production requires a lot of work and dedication from both the cast and crew. As a cast member, there’s still a lot of work to be done! From sets, painting, and costumes, Company needs your help! They invite you to come and help make this production come to life! They can’t wait to see you there!
