How to Give Kids in Our Sister City a Break From the Ukrainian War
By Tamara Shpylova
Weston has a sister city: Siversk, Ukraine. When Covid closed schools six years ago, kids in Siversk took to Zoom to learn and see each other — then the invasion came. Today they remain displaced from their homes, still Zooming for school.
This fall, Weston High School’s Civic Leadership Club and Weston-Siversk Clubs launched the Camp Days Challenge: a four-week, grade-vs-grade fundraiser (September 25–October 23) to send kids from Siversk to a children’s therapy camp. $25 gives a child a day of camp — a day reunited with friends, just being a kid. $250 sponsors a child’s full ten-day session.
How to help: donate through your grade’s page — every dollar counts in the grade competition:
– Grade 9: donorbox.org/whs-camp-days-challenge-grade-9
– Grade 10: donorbox.org/whs-camp-days-challenge-grade-10
– Grade 11: donorbox.org/whs-camp-days-challenge-grade-11
– Grade 12: donorbox.org/whs-camp-days-challenge-grade-12
All donations go to Ukraine Aid International’s camp fund. The challenge ends October 23 — let’s send these kids to camp.
