Best Non-Scary Halloween Movies

Halloween is an amazing night for all ages and there have been hundreds of Halloween movies to celebrate this holiday. Spooky movies are great, not everyone loves super scary movies.. Here is a list of my personal top 10 best non-scary Halloween movies that you can enjoy this Halloween.

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) (PG)
    • The classic Tim Burton film follows Jack Skeleton, the pumpkin king, who slowly becomes bored of the same routine in Halloweentown. Jack Skeleton accidentally stumbles into Christmastown and get’s the idea to bring Christmas back to Halloweentown by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over his job. This musical movie consists of many Halloween favorites including, “This is Halloween” and “What’s this”. The movie can be enjoyable for everyone of all ages, but the true question that still goes unanswered is if The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween or Christmas movie?
  • Corpse Bride (2005) (PG)
    • Corpse Bride is another classic musical Tim Burton film. Victor and Victoria had been placed in an arranged marriage between their families. Although just meeting, they quickly grow to like each other. While practicing for his wedding vows, Victor places the ring on a tree branch and the hand of Emily drags him to the underworld. Victor must convince, or trick, Emily into helping him go home back to his wedding and fiance Victoria. This story is about love and if you enjoy animation and music, this movie is for you.
  • The Addams Family (1991) (PG-13)
    • Bum Bum Dum dum dum **Snap Snap** A continuation of the tv show, The Addams Family follows Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandmama, Lurch (The butler), and Thing Addams. When a man comes to the house and claims to be Gomez Addams’s long lost brother Fester Addams, everyone is thrilled. Slowly, Morticia grows to become more cautious of Uncle Fester who eventually gets the family evicted. This movie celebrates different types of families, even the creepy ones.
  • Hocus Pocus (1993) (PG)
    • In Salem Massachusetts, a teenager named Max Dennison tries to impress a girl, Allison, by exploring an abandoned house with him. Max ignores the superstition Allison had tried to warn him about and as a result he sets free three witches, all killed during the witch trials together, who used to live in the house and long to have immortality. The children, with the help of a black cat, try to stop the witches from completing their goal. Viewers of the movie learn that you’re never too old to celebrate Halloween and that it’s not just about the candy…even though it is a big part of it.
  • Beetlejuice (1988) (PG)
    • Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetle… After Barbara and Adam Maitland die in a car accident, they find themselves as ghosts trapped inside their own home. The Deetzes move into the Maitland home with their teen daughter Lydia Deetz, who turns out to be able to see the ghosts. The Maitlands attempt to scare the Deetzes away and are forced to call on the help of Beetlejuice, a ghost who longs for freedom. And yes, the movie was later turned into a Broadway musical which is now back on Broadway.
  • Coraline (2009) (PG)
    • Buttons for eyes? When young Coraline explores her new home she accidentally stumbles upon a secret door which leads to an alternate world of her own life…but not her own life. Immediately, she lives with her other mother and father until they try to keep her there forever. Coraline must try to find a way out and back home. This movie is a little creepy, but it shows what family means.
  • Little Shop of Horrors (1986) (PG – 13)
    • Feed me. The musical movie follows Seymour, a worker at a flower shop who has a crush on his co-worker Audrey. One day, Seymour discovers an unusual plant and names it Audrey II. For a while, Audrey II won’t grow despite how much Seymour feeds it until Seymour cuts his finger and realizes Audrey II’s thirst for blood. Seymour continues to feed the plant his blood behind the scenes while in front of the camera, Audrey II brings lots of attention and fame to the store. The growing plant slowly becomes hungrier for food and some more blood is spilled. If you watch the movie and the play, you will discover that they both have different endings.

Enjoy this list of non-scary Halloween movies and make sure to have a happy and safe Halloween!
