Events in the Month of October

Looking to get involved in the community this fall? This October, there will be many opportunities to appreciate Weston residents’ tight bond with their town and with each other. Both Lachat Town Farm and Weston’s Emmanuel Church welcome you to their family-friendly events!

On Saturday, October 8 Lachat Town Farm will be holding their annual “Hoedown” from 4:00 to 8:00 in the evening. This fundraiser event is an opportunity to help a local business and show your support for the town. In light of the country theme, the farm is taking on their best recreation of a “hoedown;” food will be provided by Odeen’s Barbeque and there will be live music and dancing performed by the Flying Fingers Jug Band!

Erin Hollman, a dancer from the Hudson Valley will be traveling to the farm to teach country dance moves like the Country Swing, Line Dancing, and Square Dancing. Chicken dancing will also be encouraged for the entire family to get involved in! Dining will take place outdoors and dancing will be in the barn. There will be a pumpkin hunt for ages both young and old, including a hunt for the mysterious “Great Pumpkin.”

Lachat asks that you channel your country enthusiasm into your outfit for the night, since they will be holding a best dressed contest. Despite this new, country culture, Lachat will have their traditional bonfire and inclusive, community feel that is brought to each of their fundraisers. Visit their website at www.lachattownfarm.org under “Programs” for more information and to sign up for the waitlist of this event.

There is a chill in the air across town, but it is not from the crisp New England feel of October. There has been news of the owner of a local town farm vanishing, and the town needs your help. Join Lachat Town Farm in “The Haunted Farm” from October 20 to October 23 to be frightened by the bloody history of this man and his disappearance. The spooky event starts at Morehouse; a bus will take you to and from the farm where you will hike the woods and fields at your own risk. Get into the halloween spirit and visit www.lachattownfarm.org under “Programs” for more information or to purchase a ticket.

Weston’s Emmanuel Church asks you to celebrate with them at their 115th annual family fair on Saturday, October 15th. This rain-or-shine event will take place from 12:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. There will be live music performed by Weston High School’s own Karl Schulz Trio and the band debut of Fever. Special guests and performances include Tony award winning singer Kristin Huffman, members of the new Paradigm Theater, and others. It will be a great family event for people of all ages.

Activities like the bouncy house, games, and a halloween lantern workshop are sure to keep the little ones entertained. Meanwhile, if you are looking to shop around and purchase items, a Silent Auction will be held and tents will be selling goods. Food will be provided for you and your family by Tony Pizza Napolitano Food Truck and a “Country Kitchen” bake sale. This event is a New England Country Fair that promotes the togetherness of Weston, and the Emmanuel Church hopes that you are willing to support!
